As the nation’s leading integrator of mission systems, we will utilise this Centre to create opportunities for innovation and collaboration with Defence and our supplier partners.”
The next-generation Customer Engagement Centre, featuring a Mechdyne CAVE2, can be linked to similar facilities around the globe allowing for real-time collaboration between international teams. Raytheon will also be able to reduce the need for mock-ups, expensive rework, or design changes through the use of the virtual reality environment. The CAVE2 will also be used for:
- Virtual integration
- Facility design and layout
- Operations analysis and simulation
- Design reviews
- Training
- Customer and supplier engagement
- Human factor analysis
- Remote collaboration
- STEM
- Community outreach
A smaller, portable version of the CAVE2 will be available to Raytheon’s industry partners allowing for engagement with local suppliers.
Minister for Defence Industry, Christopher Pyne was quoted in pyneonline.com saying, “I can see the CAVE’s potential in designing the next combat information centre for the Air Warfare Destroyer without the need for mock-ups, expensive rework or design change. Innovation and investment in technology such as this will offer new opportunities to engage with Australian industry and grow our sovereign defence capability.”
The CAVE2 is a 320-degree, panoramic 2D/3D virtual environment consisting of 72 large video screens that use stereoscopic projection and 3D computer graphics. The centre’s CAVE2 is also running Mechdyne software Meeting Canvas and Conduit to help support collaboration, digital prototyping, and interactive and immersive data reviews.
