In a shocking twist, Dolly Parton, 78, appears to have thrown subtle shade at pop sensation Beyoncé, 43, despite earning millions from her hit song “Jolene” being featured on Beyoncé’s album. Sources claim the feud began when Beyoncé, who achieved success with her venture into country music with the hit Texas Hold 'Em, was surprisingly snubbed by the Country Music Association (CMA). Despite the massive popularity of the album Cowboy Carter, the CMAs chose not to nominate her for any awards.
According to insiders, Beyoncé was blindsided by Dolly’s support of the CMAs decision. "Beyoncé is shocked that Dolly took the CMA's side," spilled one source, adding that Bey now feels the country music industry may never fully accept her. Civil rights groups have even weighed in, accusing the CMA of racial bias in its selection process, but Dolly seems to think it’s simply a case of country music sticking to its roots.
“There’s so many wonderful country artists,” Dolly explained, “they probably thought, well, we can’t really leave out some of the ones that spend their whole life doing that.”
This statement has allegedly fueled tensions between the two music icons, especially given that Beyoncé gave Dolly full songwriting credit for Jolene, despite radically changing the lyrics and forgoing any co-writing claims. Insiders say this gracious move could have brought Dolly millions, making her stance all the more unexpected.
With Dolly’s support of the CMA’s decision, sources claim that Beyoncé, who revered the country queen, feels deeply betrayed. “When even Dolly won’t go to bat for her,” the insider revealed, “well, Queen Bey is done making country music for good!”
