It has been a while since the making of “Prison Break” season 6 was confirmed. Despite having all those years since the official announcement, many details in the plot and casting remain unknown at this point. For one, many fans are asking whether or not Alexander Mahone (William Fichtner) will return and what Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) will be working on next.
Among other characters, fans are most intrigued about Mahone’s possible return in “Prison Break” season 6 simply because Fichtner did not reprise the role in the entire fifth season. While Fichtner’s return is still unconfirmed this point, fans may recall that series creator Paul T. Scheuring sound positive about it.
In March 2018, Scheuring confirmed that he had finished writing the first episode of “Prison Break” season 6. That update is big enough on its own. But fans wanting more details ask about Mahone’s return. To that, the showrunner replied that there is “somewhere between 50-150 percent chance” of it happening.

Technically, that social media post does not confirm anything officially. But it likely implies that Fichtner is on board of reprising his Mahone role for “Prison Break” season 6. But if fans will recall the reason why Mahone was a no-show in season 5, they would appreciate Scheuring’s answer even more. “Paul honestly said to me, 'I don't know what to do with that character,'” cast member Robert Knepper previously told the Digital Spy. “He didn't want to just bring everybody back, so that the audience go, 'Oh, look, it's Bill Fichtner again!' – he honestly thought, 'I'm not sure where to do that in the plot.’”
Meanwhile, another floating question for “Prison Break” season 6 is what will Michael be doing next. When the revival series ended in 2017, the main protagonist was shown enjoying a quiet life with his family. Before that, viewers might remember that he was offered another project with the CIA, which he later turned down. But reports suggest that, somewhere along this peaceful life, Michael might end up looking for the thrills and he might have ultimately accepted the job offer.
There were speculations that “Prison Break” season 6 would have a 2019 release date. Unfortunately, the blockbuster 21st Century Fox and Disney merger have delayed its production, as confirmed by Dominic Purcell.
