This year has been marked with many delayed video games for a very understandable reason. While the remake of “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” was slated to launch next year from the start, Ubisoft still ended up delaying its launch for a couple of months as its development needs more time.
‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ gets a new release date
The Tuesday announcement came through the official Twitter page of the franchise. “We wanted to let you know that we are taking addition time to work on the game,” Ubisoft said in a statement. “Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake” is now scheduled to launch on March 18, 2021 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Before the delay was announced, “Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake” was scheduled to arrive on Jan. 21 next year. However, Ubisoft assures fans that delaying the game by two months is the “right call” and will let the developers release a game that will meet the gamers’ expectations.
‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ gameplay: What to expect
The emphasis on the project being a remake and not a remaster is important. It is unclear yet just how huge the changes in the gameplay elements are going to be. But it is not surprising if some fans have higher expectations on what a “remake” title would be given the success of “Final Fantasy VII Remake” following its launch last March.
Gameplay improvements in “Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake” are attributed to the use of Ubisoft’s Anvil, the same game engine used in developing “Assassin’s Creed” titles. Eurogamer reported that the remake will offer a revamped combat systems with new controls. Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, the studios handling the project, have also recorded new audio and mo-cap performances with Yuri Lowenthal who also portrayed the character of Prince in the original “Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.”
What fans can expect to be maintained from the original title is the lineup of characters. “Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake” will still feature a plot that revolves around the Prince and Farah. But senior producer Annu Koul also hinted that the game has been reimagined to provide a “modern twist.”
