The BBC's recent announcement that "Poldark" season 5 will be the series' last installment has left many fans heartbroken. But the fifth season in the series may be a fitting send off considering the future of the characters in Winston Graham's novels.
The show's writer, Debbie Horsfield, mentions that “Poldark” season 5 will be focused on Winston Graham's eighth novel in his series, “The Stranger from the Sea.” While she does mention that aside from the Poldarks, the show will continue to follow the lives of George Warleggan (Jack Farthing), the Enyses, and the Carnes as they are affeccted by the time jump that is inherent in the novels, fans who have read the book know that “The Stranger from the Sea” will also start shifting the story to focus on Ross Poldark's (Adrian Turner) children.
The BBC announcement of “Poldark” season 5 being canceled does include a list of new cast members that will be joining the show's last season. Considering that the list of new cast members has yet to have confirmed roles, fans can potentially expect older actors who will be portraying Ross Poldark's children to be part of the list for the upcoming season.
The importance of new cast members who will represent the Poldark children can be expected as Jeremy Poldark – who appears as a child with an uncredited actor – will play a significant role in Graham's eighth novel. If “Poldark” season 5 stays true to the books, Jeremy will be the character who saves the titular stranger from the sea, as well as have his own romantically tragic storyline, choosing between the woman he claims to love and his fascination with the steam engine.
Fans of the show can hopefully look forward to more announcements about the new cast members that will continue to flesh out the “Poldark” saga. While “Poldark” season 5 has yet to have an official season premiere date, fans can expect the show to return sometime in 2019.
