Pizza Hut Taiwan recently debuted its new pizza flavor, and it received mixed reactions from customers. The Taiwanese unit of the pizza restaurant added the cake pizza with cilantro, century egg, and pig’s blood to the menu, and the combination of toppings did raise some eyebrows.

Unique food flavors in Taiwan

According to Taiwan News, the pizza flavor features a blend of local Taiwanese ingredients, which others may find unusual. The new Pizza Hut Taiwan dish is called Cilantro Century Egg Pig’s Blood Cake Pizza, and for other countries, this name may not sound attractive at all.

It was said that this is not the first time that the restaurant introduced unique flavors as Pizza Hut and even Domino’s have released a number of wide-ranging pizza flavors before. It was observed that they usually formulate a new flavor based on what food is popular in the country.

For instance, durian, strawberry stinky tofu, pearl milk tea, and durian have been trending, and restaurants will develop food based on these flavors. Now, it was only on Tuesday, June 29, when Pizza Hut Taiwan revealed the Cilantro Century Egg Pig’s Blood Cake Pizza, but it has already attracted so much attention.

Although customers may find the concoction chaotic at first, Pizza Hut Taiwan said that this is a delicious combination of toppings. Through its social media page, the restaurant wrote that although the pig’s blood cake, cilantro, and preserved eggs may appear to clash with melted mozzarella, the taste would be different as the cheese unites all the flavors together.

The customers’ comments

Many customers admitted that they find the new Pizza Hut flavor unappetizing but getting the courage to taste it, they have changed their minds. One reportedly said that it is really not that bad, while others wonder if they are the only ones who think that the pizza is actually delicious. What’s more, Taiwanese actor Aaron Yan even said that the taste is at “Michelin level.”

Asia Post reported that the new Pizza Hut Taiwan flavor even sparked discussions on social media, and the opinions are divided because there are people who also stated that they couldn’t imagine why those toppings were mixed together. Nevertheless, even if customers have different views on Cilantro Century Egg Pig’s Blood Cake Pizza, its marketing surely works that even if some people taste it out of curiosity, it is still a gain for the restaurant as it is still part of the sales after all.
