Sony’s PlayStation console has had many amazing cult hits throughout its four generations, but the Persona series is often considered one of the more standout examples. First hitting its stride in the west with the third installment and then exploding with the fourth, the games have had a loyal following ever since. Now, the fifth title is about to arrive in the US and could be the series’ chance to reach mainstream success. Its newest trailer certainly seems promising.
The Persona games have had a consistent theme all throughout its many reincarnations, with a few changes here and there. P3 proved particularly popular among first-timers because of how jolting it was to see teenagers shooting themselves in the head in order to summon creatures that they would use to fight with, The Verge reports.
In part, such strange mechanics are among the factors that prevented the franchise from reaching mainstream status, but P5 might finally change that. One of the reasons for this expectation is the fact that it is the first game in the series to come for the PlayStation console in nearly a decade. It’s also one of the few video games coming out of Japan to have a big budget and considerable time for developers to work on.
Much of the effort that went into the game is showcased by the newest cinematic trailer for the game. Aside from the quality of the voice acting, the video also offered viewers a glimpse of some of the mini-games and graphical artistry, Game Rant reports.
Even with all of its excellent features, however, it’s fortunate that the title was not forced to contend with juggernauts like Horizon: Zero Dawn and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild with a March release. Being pushed back to an April launch might just be P5’s saving grace.
