‘Peaky Blinders’ season 4 is set to feature Adrien Brody in a mystery role as more plot details emerge. Meanwhile, Cillian Murphy revealed the sacrifice he had to make to portray Tommy Shelby.
According to Deadline, Academy Award-winning actor Adrien Brody has joined the new cast of the upcoming season of the British television crime drama in a mystery role. Filming began recently in Liverpool in North West England.
Although no details of Brody’s character have been announced as of the present, creator Steven Knight assured fans, “He genuinely was the actor in my head when I wrote the part. I’m sure he will be a formidable presence in the world of the Peaky Blinders.”
BBC Drama Controller Piers Wenger also said that Brody was a “a world class actor famous for producing mesmerizing performances.” Wenger added, “I cannot wait to see him in action alongside the rest of Peaky Blinders’ superb cast bringing Steven Knight’s extraordinary writing to life on BBC Two.”
Brody is best known for being the youngest actor to have received the Academy Award for Best Actor. He was only 29-years old when he claimed the titled for his role as Wladyslaw Szpilman on Roman Polanski’s 2002 film ‘The Pianist.’ He also worked on other films such as 2008’s ‘Cadillac Records,’ 2011’s ‘Midnight in Paris,’ and 2014’s ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel.’
The American actor joins award-winning lead Cillian Murphy in the new cast. Murphy plays Tommy Shelby, the leader of the notorious Romani/Irish Peaky Blinders gang who operated in Birmingham during the aftermath of World War I. Tommy is also the head of the Shelby family.
Other core cast members returning for season 4 include Helen McCrory, Tom Hardy, Paul Anderson, Joe Cole, Finn Cole, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Sophie Rundle, and Kate Phillips.
The new season will begin with Tommy receiving a letter warning him of danger for members of the Peaky Blinders. According to the Independent, Tommy will leave his country home and returns to Birmingham as he prepares for an imminent war.
Meanwhile, according to Express, Murphy admitted that he had to give up certain things to be able to play Tommy. During an interview with Mr Porter magazine, Murphy said, "I was vegetarian for about 15 years. But it was ever a moral devision. It was more that I was worried about getting mad cow disease.
He added, “For the first series of Peaky Blinders, they were anxious that I shouldn't look like a skinny Irish fella, and my trainer recommended meat.”
The 40-year old Irish actor was last seen in character on the set of ‘Peaky Blinders.’ One of the behind-the-scenes images showed Murphy running the streets while holding a gun. It seems that he may have evaded capture following the cliffhanger in the season 3 finale.
‘Peaky Blinders’ is expected to return on BBC Two sometime later in 2017 as no official release date has been announced as of the present.
