Panasonic Energy Co Ltd and Mazda Motor Corporation have announced a pivotal partnership to tackle the surging need for electric vehicle (EV) batteries. Panasonic will supply Mazda with lithium-ion batteries manufactured in Japan and North America for their upcoming EV models.
Under the agreement, Panasonic Energy will supply Mazda with cylindrical lithium-ion batteries produced at its factories in Japan and North America. Mazda will then incorporate them into its EVs intended for release by the end of the 2020s. The deal resulted from the automotive industry's pressing need to advance electrification and ensure that this revolutionary technology leads to a harmoniously sustainable environment.
Kazuo Tadanobu, President and CEO of Panasonic Energy said that the collaboration with Mazda signals a crucial step in achieving their vision of achieving societal well-being and creating a zero-emission landscape by utilizing their advanced expertise and vast experience.
Meanwhile, Masahiro Moro, Senior Managing Executive Officer of Mazda, stated that their partnership with Panasonic Energy is part of their three-phase electrification initiative, allowing them to adapt to changes in consumer demand and regulatory trends quickly. The two companies intend to collaborate to supply Mazda with automotive cylindrical lithium-ion batteries from Panasonic Energy's factories, so Mazda can use them to fuel their new battery EVs. Mazda is expected to release its new models in the latter half of the 2020s.
This special announcement comes when the automotive industry is rapidly turning to electrification, and this partnership aims to be a significant step toward realizing a more sustainable future. As part of Mazda's goal to maintain its outstanding reputation, they're working towards electrification initiatives in three phases, allowing them to keep up with ever-changing regulations and consumer needs.
The talk about creating a battery supply partnership for electric vehicles (EVs) is an exciting prospect that could bring Mazda a step closer to ramping up the production of EVs and plays a valuable role in driving the growth of the lithium-ion battery industry. These talks are rightly exciting for industry insiders, and their focus on a medium to long-term partnership ensures that this is a great sign of things to come.
