Guerrilla Games’ new IP in Horizon: Zero Dawn was met with rave reviews recently as one of the most promising video game titles of this generation. This cleared up a lot of the doubt surrounding the open-world game since it was shrouded in a lot of mystery. As great as this news is for gamers, it also serves to highlight yet another notch in the PlayStation 4’s exclusive superiority over the Xbox One. What before was just a gap has just become a ravine with the addition of the post-apocalyptic title.
As Paul Tassi over at Forbes points out, it is becoming noticeable how many more exclusives the PS4 has compared to the Xbox One. Discussions like this can quickly devolve to pointless bouts of fanboyism, but it is still worth noting the difference that is only growing.
Sony’s knack for cultivating excellent exclusive titles like the Uncharted franchise, God of War, The Last Of Us, and now, Horizon: Zero Dawn is well known in the gaming industry. Microsoft does have some excellent titles under its belt as well, including the Halo and Gears Of War franchises, but one would be hard-pressed to add names to that list that are actually of the same caliber.
The Xbox One maker recently made waves by canceling Scalebound, the massive action RPG title being developed by Hideki Kamiya where players can actually fight on dragon back. The game was going to be a much-needed addition to the list of exclusives for the console, but it would seem that Microsoft didn’t think it was worth.
In any case, it’s clear that if Microsoft doesn’t find a way to bolster its lineup of games that players will actually want, its consumer base is going to suffer. The upcoming Project Scorpio upgrade for the game box is getting a lot of publicity, but without enough exclusives to play on it, there are very few reasons to get it.
