Before the world was absolutely floored by the launch of Blizzard’s Overwatch, it was treated to Battleborn by GearBox. This MMO FPS game basically follows the same formula as its bigger, more successful counterpart, featuring quirky characters, fast-paced matches, and team-based sessions. In an effort to generate more interest in the game, GearBox is making Battleborn free to play for a limited time starting today.
Now, there are a few interesting bits in this story that gamers might absolutely love. For starters, it doesn’t have a definitive end date, IGN reports. This means that players could potentially put the game through its paces for weeks or months.
Battleborn’s free trial period will also give players access to all of the game’s maps and modes. On that note, the number of playable heroes that are available will be restricted to six every week and they will be on a rotation basis. Anyone who may want to use a particular character who isn’t available initially will then have to wait.
In addition, it would seem that there is also a new training mode for beginners called Incursion. Novices won’t have to worry about being pitted against more experienced fighters either since they will be placed in the Novice Queue.
After playing a considerable portion of the game, players will eventually gain levels and unlock some other modes and aspects of the game. There is even a single-player story campaign, which is something that Overwatch players have been asking Blizzard to provide them with.
The free trial is available to all platforms that feature the game, Engadget reports, which are basically the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, and the Steam version of the game on PC. However, in order to absolutely unlock everything in the likely time limit that gamers will be given, it’s probable that real money will be used. Buying the game’s Platinum currency with real money allows for experience boosters and hero unlocks.
