Since last week, there has been much speculation amongst “Overwatch” fans on who is the video game’s new hero.
According to Paul Tassi on Forbes, the speculation started when a curious message in the game’s forums read, “24 isn’t who you think.” It was previously believed that the 24th hero was Doomfist, but he was never confirmed. Tassi presents evidence ranging from the awkward interview to a Twitter conversation that Efi Oladele, an African child prodigy who won a genius grant for her robotics work, is “Overwatch”’s new hero.
The real clincher, he says, is the end part of Efi’s interview. Tassi wrote, “Efi’s interview ends with a rather ominous quote about her flying to go on a trip to celebrate her award with her parents. If that’s not the beginning of a tragic origin story, I don’t know what is.”
However, some fans argue that it could be a robotic spider.
Gita Jackson on Kotaku that aside from appearing in the promotional panels during Blizzard Entertainment’s video con, she said a robotic spider would not be the first time for “Overwatch.” She added, “A spider shaped robot has appeared twice before, so this speculation isn’t entirely baseless. It’s appeared once in Sombra’s origin story video, pretty clearly in the lower left hand corner, connected to an image of Doomfist’s gauntlet.”
And if ever, Efi just happened to be the creator and not the new hero, Polygon postulates.
“The popular fan theory goes like this: New hero Efi invented a spider-like, quadrupedal tank that players will control, and it’s the same one that’s made a few appearances in videos and concept art,” Allegra Frank said on the tech and gaming site.
