‘Orphan Black’ season 5’s episode 1, titled “The Few Who Dare,” will feature the return of Tatiana Maslany in multiple leading roles. In the premiere, Sarah will attempt to rescue Cosima while the latter reunites with Delphine. Meanwhile, it was speculated that Helena may revert back into a cold-blooded killer as hinted in the season 5 footage.
The short synopsis for “The Few Who Dare” posted on TV Guide reads, “In the Season 5 premiere, Sarah (Tatiana Maslany) strives to rescue Cosima while struggling to survive on the island herself. Elsewhere: Cosima reunites with Delphine (Evelyne Brochu).”
The final season of the Canadian science-fiction television series starring Tatiana Maslany in multiple leading roles is set to kick off on June 10. In the trailer for the upcoming season, Maslany’s Helena promises imminent bloodbath as she threatens, “I will cleanse them from this Earth.”
According to TV Insider, Helena was introduced in season 1 as a violent assassin on a mission to kill her clones but eventually became one of the good guys as she attempted to protect her children.
However, in the clip, Helena storms into a church and ruthlessly stabs a woman in the back. It turns out that her target was actually one of her sister clones. Based on Helena’s reaction after realizing what she has done, it seems that the murderous act was most likely unintentional. Helena’s mouth quivers as she closes the clone’s eyes after the latter takes her final breath.
Meanwhile, star Jordan Gavaris talked about the influence ‘Orphan Black’ had for television and the science-fiction genre. According to Variety, he said, “It opened the door to some really interesting programming from cable broadcasters… Look at shows like ‘Search Party,’ which I love so much. It is the weirdest little show. I don’t know if that would exist if we didn’t have shows like ‘Orphan Black’ making it OK to be weird.” Gavaris plays Felix on the television series.
Maslany also revealed that although her roles on the show were challenging, they were also the most rewarding. She said, “It was a roller coaster of characters in motion, with different genres. Every character had a different film they were in, and we got to shoot that film — whether it was horror, romance or a suburban comedy.”
‘Orphan Black’ season 5’s episode 1, titled “The Few Who Dare,” is scheduled to air on BBC on June 10, 2017. It was directed by John Fawcett. It will be followed by episode 2, titled “Clutch of Greed,” scheduled to be released on June 17.
