More companies are expected to introduce their take on foldable smartphone technology within the next year, and Oppo is likely to be one of them. More reports emerged recently claiming to have new details about the Oppo foldable phone, which could be officially named Find N.
If the “N” naming scheme seems familiar, that is because Oppo had previously introduced the N-series that featured smartphones with quite a unique design. The Oppo N1 came out in 2013 with a rotating camera module so the sensor can be used from the front and rear of the device. While the company released a follow-up device in 2014, the series was eventually discontinued.
Now, it appears to be making a comeback in some capacity. Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station reported that the company’s first foldable smartphone could be named Oppo Find N. The device could also borrow some of the characteristics of the original N-series, especially the design that would allow its camera to be used in more than one direction. While it is still not entirely clear how it will work on the Oppo Find N, the same leaker claimed the foldable smartphone would also have a “small screen preview” that can help users when taking selfies.
Digital Chat Station added that the Oppo Find N is planned to feature a 50MP main camera. The company is rumored to use the Sony IMX766 sensor. This corresponds with an earlier tip from another leaker known as “Panda is Bald,” who also claimed that the foldable smartphone could also have a 32MP camera, 4500mAh battery, support for 65W fast charging, and an 8-inch LTPO display with 2K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.
In Digital Chat Station’s more recent leak, the source added that the Oppo Find N camera could have similar capabilities as the Oppo Reno6. But the device is expected to use a side-mounted fingerprint sensor instead of an in-display component. The tipster noted that the “latest version” of the foldable phone is “close to mass production” with an external screen-capped at a 60Hz refresh rate.
Oppo has remained mum about its plans to enter the foldable smartphone competition, so it is best to take the leaks with a grain of salt.
