The end of the Wano arc is near as the story approaches its 1000th chapter. The war in Onigashima is ongoing and readers are expecting Luffy and Kaido to battle soon. But prior to this, the Straw Hats and their allies are busy fighting the villains who are working on Kaido’s commands.
Chapter recap
In the previous chapter 998, titled “Ancient Types,” Marco the Phoenix was featured for the most part of the chapter. This is because his arrival helped the Straw Hats a lot and he played a big part in stopping the spread of the Ice Oni virus too.
Marco also aided Yamato, Momo and Shinobu to escape as Kaido’s people were going after them. His phoenix flames also made it easier for Chopper to freely create the antibodies to cure those who were inflicted by the Ice Oni including himself.
Apoo who became aware that their rivals were able to get a hold of the antidote tried to snatch it from them but he failed after X Drake attacked in his allosaurus form. Now, as help comes to protect Chopper, Zoro and Robin, Brook deemed it safe to ask Marco to help him get to the dome’s roof where Kaido is battling with the nine Scabbards.
Elsewhere, Black Maria and Sanji are also fighting after the latter was caught in her trap. Black Maria turned into a giant spider and faced Sanji who is struggling to set himself free after getting stuck in the spider web.
Luffy and Jinbe reached the fourth floor and while the Straw Hats leader continues to go up to the fifth floor, Jinbe stayed to deal with a bunch of Beasts Pirates and Who’s Who. As for Usopp and Nami, as soon as they defeated Hihimaru, Ulti and Page One started to go after them.
Spoilers - Plot prediction and release date
On Reddit’s discussion page for “One Piece” chapter 999 spoilers, it was predicted that Numbers will appear and the Samurai and X Drake will have a hard time containing them. Thus, Monster Chopper, X Drake and Godzilla will team up to fight against 4 Numbers.
The Ice Oni will finally be resolved in “One Piece” chapter 999 but unfortunately, the Scabbards will be beaten down by Kaido. This will also be the chapter that will end Act 3 and pave the way for a new Wano chapter in the 1000th episode.
Also, there will be a short flashback that will show how Yamato and Ace met in the past. More scenes will reveal more of their link and friendship. Meanwhile, Luffy and Jack will fight on the fight floor and the former will be gravely injured. “One Piece” chapter 999 will be released on Dec. 20.
