When news started circulating that a Dutch company was claiming patent infringement by “Hello Games” regarding a “superalgorithm” that they supposedly used without permission, there were concerns that “No Man’s Sky” could be delayed again. CEO Sean Murray promptly dismissed the claims, saying that the issue was not a story worth talking about. As it turns out, the game would be delayed but only for the PC and only for three days.
According to Polygon, “No Man’s Sky” will be released for the “PlayStation 4” on Aug. 9 and for the PC on Aug. 12. This might seem like a small issue since it’s just a three-day difference, but considering how touchy the subject of delays has been for the title and the developers, it still poses a risk of inflaming rabid fans.
The change in release date can be found on the About Page of the game, which means that either the development is official or someone made a mistake. In any case, “Hello Games” has made no official announcement on the matter as of writing this piece, so fans will just have to wait.
In related news, “PS4” owners will be glad to know that they are not required to have a “PlayStation Plus” account in order to play the game. According to SlashGear, while “No Man’s Sky” is technically a multiplayer game, the chances of running into another player in the vast universe is slim to none. This led to the game getting the classification of “Single-Player,” thus removing the need for “PlayStation Plus.”
On that note, players are reminded that they will still need to be connected to the internet if they want to claim planets for their own since this is just not possible while playing offline. The absence of the “PlayStation Plus” requirement would likely come as a relief to some PS4 owners as the service costs $50 a year to use, which is a lot of money to dole out for those who don’t already have an account.
