Nintendo Co., Ltd., the Kyoto, Japan-headquartered video game company, is reportedly releasing the newest edition of its Switch console this year. This prediction was relayed to CNBC by analysts in the industry.
As per CNBC, Nintendo is likely to unveil its Switch 2 version in 2024 as it is looking to take advantage of the growing interest in its popular characters, such as Mario Brothers and Zelda, that have already been adopted into films.
"I think the new device will come out in 2024, probably in the second half of the year," Kantan Games CEO, Serkan Toto, told the publication. "The original Switch is now almost 7 years old, sales are going down. So it is absolutely high time for a new Nintendo system this year."
Switch Console: A Game Changer in the Company
Nintendo introduced the Switch console in March 2017, which has changed how a game is played. It is a portable console that allows gamers to play anywhere since it eliminates the need for a television and controller.
Nintendo Switch is a game "on-the-go," since the controllers are attached to a tablet with a wide screen. The device is essentially a miniature TV with built-in controllers, making gaming very convenient and hassle-free. This portability feature of mobile games immediately made Nintendo Switch a popular console.
Since its launch, the company's shares increased by more than 200%. The video gaming company has kept up its sales momentum over the years by continuously adding characters and first-party games.
