DUDLEY, Mass., Aug. 24, 2017 -- Nexamp, Inc., a leading provider of solar energy solutions, today announced the completion of four community solar facilities, totaling 2.4 megawatts (MW), located on adjacent parcels of land in the Town of Dudley, Massachusetts. Nexamp partnered with Evergreen Farm, a locally-owned 5th generation family farm, to co-locate a productive source of solar energy with existing agricultural operations on the 265 year-old farm. Nexamp designed, developed and installed the 7,524 module solar installation on the property, which will provide a stable and reliable source of lease revenue to the family farm for decades to come. The project is Nexamp’s latest in its growing portfolio of community solar assets in the Bay State.
Nexamp’s Dudley Solar array will provide substantial energy cost savings to UMass Memorial Health Care, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), and Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort, each of which entered into an agreement with Nexamp to purchase energy credits generated by the project at a discounted rate.
“WPI is pleased to support the expansion of clean solar electricity generation in the State of Massachusetts through Nexamp’s community solar program,” said John Orr, Director of Sustainability and Professor Emeritus of Electrical and Computer Engineering at WPI. “Our agreement with Nexamp is yet another component of the university’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainability in the region.”
Over 100 residents, small businesses, and non-profits will realize energy cost savings from the project through Nexamp’s Solarize My Bill™ community solar program, which is dedicated to making the benefits of solar affordable and accessible to all Massachusetts ratepayers. Participating customers subscribe to the project and will receive guaranteed savings on their electricity costs for as long as they are enrolled in Nexamp’s program. Together with UMass Memorial Health Care, WPI, and Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort, project subscribers are estimated to avoid a combined $1.5 million in electricity costs over the lifetime of the project.
“Our latest installation on Evergreen Farm furthers Nexamp’s commitment to community solar and highlights the opportunities for collaboration that exist between the clean energy and agricultural sectors,” said Zaid Ashai, Chief Executive Officer of Nexamp. “This project will not only help sustain future operations at the farm, but will also provide substantial monetary and environmental benefits to many members of the local community who are subscribed through our Solarize My Bill program.”
Nexamp continues to expand its commercial solar portfolio, partnering with local stakeholders to find cost-effective green energy solutions for residents, businesses, and municipalities alike Through the end of the year, Nexamp expects to reach nearly 50 MW of operational community solar installations across 18 projects, and is preparing a substantial pipeline of development assets for Massachusetts’ recently-unveiled SMART Program, which should be effective by early 2018. In the meantime, the company continues to invest in organic projects and acquisitions across Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Maryland and several additional new markets.
