The drought for a new “Devil May Cry” installment could be ending this year — a decade since the last one — according to certain leaks that surfaced recently.
It has been 10 years since fans of the action-adventure hack-and-slash game saw the launch of the last main installment of the franchise. But reports have it that several leaks pertaining to the game have been circulating, powering up rumors suggesting that “Devil May Cry 5” could be unveiled this year.
The latest main installment, “Devil May Cry 4,” was released back in 2008. In the following years, developers launched spinoffs, collection copies and HD editions of “Devil May Cry” games but not an entirely new title for the franchise.
Most recently, observers spotted a product listing of the rumored “Devil May Cry 5” on the Austrian retailer Gameware. Game Rant added that Gameware even opened pre-orders for the said game. If the leak is accurate, “Devil May Cry 5” could be released on both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
ComicBook added that this is not the first time rumblings about “Devil May Cry 5” made their way to the internet. The report recalled that in 2017, there were rumors that Sony was supposed to release the first-ever official trailer for “Devil May Cry 5” during the PS Experience event in December but pulled it out of the program at the eleventh hour.
According to a Resetera post following the supposed postponed PSX announcement, the rumored game is reportedly slated for an early 2019 release.
Meanwhile, the supposed postponement of “Devil May Cry 5’s” announcement at the latest PSX event led to another speculation that the game could be revealed during Sony’s press event at the Electronic Entertainment Expo this month.
However, despite several reports from insiders and the said leaks, fans should always remember that game developer Capcom has never made any official statements about the existence of “Devil May Cry 5.” So it is best to take these bits of information with caution.
