New Hampshire restaurant to accept bitcoin payments

Street, a major restaurant in Portsmouth, New Hampshire has started accepting bitcoin for everything on their menu in a move to support New Hampshire’s ‘free state’ movement.

According to Free Keene, a pro-decentralization and pro-bitcoin organization in New Hampshire, the state is on the forefront of free market principles in terms of currency and sees thousands of smart people moving to celebrate the freedom and prosperity that comes from a cultural dedication to liberty. Free Keene encourages the readers to support the restaurant and also provides the restaurant’s bitcoin wallet address.

“What a treat it is to spend free market money right in my home town and support local service people and entrepreneurs in creating such a fine dining experience,” the Free Keene website stated. Its readers can support Steven, the man who made bitcoin payments happen at Street, by sending him bitcoins to the wallet address.

Earlier this year, a bill filed by state representative Eric Schleien to allow New Hampshire residents to pay their taxes and fees using bitcoin failed to receive support. The bill faced opposition with representatives raising questions regarding exchange rate risks the state would be subject to due to fluctuating bitcoin market prices.

Street is an eclectic, casual restaurant and cocktail lounge. From falafel to phở, burgers to bánh mì, it serves the world’s most flavorful street food and with a global palate of beer, wine, and cocktails, the bar at Street is one of the hottest evening destinations in Portsmouth.
