‘New Girl’ season 6’s episode 20, titled “Misery,” is set to follow Jess as she travels to Portland to take care of her father in an attempt to distract herself from her growing romantic feelings for Nick. Meanwhile, actor Jake Johnson clarified his recent statements regarding the end of the series after the current season.
The synopsis for episode 20 posted on TV Guide reads, “Jess (Zooey Deschanel) runs away from her feelings for Nick (Jake Johnson) by heading to Portland to take care of her dad.
Meanwhile, at a work party with Reagan (guest star Megan Fox), Nick turns panicky when he realizes they really don't know each other. Aly (guest star Nasim Pedrad) steels herself for her introduction to Winston's (Lamorne Morris) mom (guest star Anna Maria Horsford) and learns the woman hasn't been told they are cops.”
The upcoming episode will follow Jess to Portland as she scrambles to distract herself from getting back romantic feelings for Nick. She will go on a trip to take care of her father (Ron Reiner). It will be interesting to see if Jess’ dad will have any insight on her relationship with Nick and if he would be able to guide her to address her feelings properly.
Nick, on the other hand, will begin to realize that he and his new love interest Reagan don’t really know much about each other beyond physical attraction. He will find himself panicking at a work party when he comes to this conclusion.
Meanwhile, actor Jake Johnson admitted that the long-running comedy series may finally coming to a close by the end of season 6. During an interview with The Daily Beast, Johnson revealed, “Fox won’t tell us [whether the show will be renewed… But we shot a finale where, if this was the end, the core fan base would be OK.”
When Johnson’s comments picked up some steam from fans of the show, he took to Twitter to clarify his statement. He wrote, "Let's be clear. I have no idea if NG is coming back. I was doing an interview for #WinItAll & was asked my guess. We've been told it's 50/50."
Creator Liz Meriwether also said during a separate interview, “I think a lot of people are watching the show later or on Hulu… When you have a show that appeals to younger viewers, the live ratings just aren't indicative of who's watching the show. And I think Fox has been pretty savvy about that and incredibly supportive of our show.” As of the present, there have been no announcements for renewals or cancellations issued by Fox.
‘New Girl’ season 6’s episode 20, titled “Misery,” is scheduled to air on Fox on March 21, 2017. It will be followed by episode 21, titled “San Diego,” scheduled to be released on March 28.
