Nestle’s trial run for its vegan KitKat has been very successful, and as a result, the chocolate bar has been approved for release in Europe. The Swiss multinational food and drink manufacturer will roll out the chocolate-covered wafer bar confection across the said region soon.
Nestle has not yet posted the exact date of release but hinted it would not be long when the plant-based KitKat hits the grocery stores in Europe. Fans of the said chocolate bar are already excited about this vegan version, and it is good news that this will be made available in 15 European countries.
As reported by Confectionery News, the Europe-wide launch of Nestle’s vegan KitKat follows the trial in the United Kingdom and a few other regions last year. Many who have already tried the new chocolate bar shared their experience on social media and predicted that the product would certainly be a hit and they were right after all.
The new vegan KitKat was developed by Nestle’s in-house chocolate experts after extensive research and development activities. The treat was developed at the company’s R&D center in York, U.K. which is where the KitKat bar originated. In any case, the plant-based version is made with non-dairy alternatives that Nestle's experts combined together to create good-tasting chocolate.
Moreover, Nestle made the KitKat V using sustainably sourced cocoa that was gathered through Nestle’s Cocoa Plan with Rainforest Alliance certification. For the milk, a rice-based alternative was added to replace it. Overall, the finished product tastes like the iconic smooth chocolate with wafers that everyone knows and loves.
"Last year, we took the decision to produce KitKat V in our R&D production facilities so we could bring the product to the shelves much faster and test with our consumers,” Nestle Confectionery’s product technology center head in York, Louise Barrett, said in a press release. “The response from consumers was overwhelming, and we are now excited to launch it at a much wider scale."
"We are seeing a strong trend in food with more people looking for plant-based options, including for treats,” Nestle Confectionery Europe’s head, Corinne Gabler, said. “This is one of the biggest launches ever of a vegan alternative of a major confectionery brand.”
