Fans will not see DEA agent Javier Pena (Pedro Pascal) take on drug kingpins in “Narcos” Season 4, dubbed “Narcos: Mexico,” but it’s possible that they may see another familiar face in the form of Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura).
Escobar has already met his end in “Narcos” Season 2, but the upcoming season of the show is actually set in the ‘80s when the Colombian drug lord is still very much alive.
“In the timeline for Narcos: Mexico, Pablo Escobar is still alive as the series chronicles the rise of the Guadalajara Cartel in the 1980s. Pablo Escobar died in 1993 and was still a powerful drug lord in the 1980’s,” Frank Yemi said in his report for Monsters and Critics.
“Therefore, a guest appearance by Wagner Moura as Pablo Escobar is a possibility as his Medellin Cartel had connections with the Guadalajara Cartel,” he added.
As noted by Yemi, this is a real possibility and Escobar’s appearance will more than likely draw a lot of viewers who want to see him interact with fellow cartel boss Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo (Diego Luna). Of course, Escobar will no longer be the main character in “Narcos” Season 4 if he does appear.
“Narcos” Season 4 would also tell the story of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzman (Alejandro Edda) before his rise to power while the Gallardo’s Guadalajara Cartel was still consolidating power in Mexico. Aside from the new setting, the season also introduces an almost entirely new cast led by Michael Pena as undercover DEA agent Kiki Camarenam.
According to the official description of “Narcos” Season 4, the current season will explore Gallardo’s rise as Mexico’s top drug lord in the ‘80s, and viewers will see how he created his empire by unifying traffickers in the region.
“Narcos” Season 4 will premiere on Nov. 16, on Netflix.
