“Narcos” season 4 and its announcement have been a love-hate relationship between the show and its fans. The upcoming season's casting of Michael Peña and Diego Luna have been met with excitement. But the show's shift from Colombia to Mexico means that “Narcos” season 4 will no longer be focused on Pedro Pascal, who had played longtime protagonist DEA agent Javier Peña since season 1.
Fans continue to ask if there is a possibility that Javier Peña might make a cameo in “Narcos” season 4. While “Narcos” showrunner Eric Newman, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, has confirmed that Javier Peña will no longer be the show's star, he neither confirmed nor denied the possibility of Pedro Pascal coming back to the series to reprise his role.
Fans on Reddit may have found a potential link that could eventually bring back Javier Peña into the fold of “Narcos” season 4. Reddit user u/youtwoo recently posted a screenshot from “Narcos” season 3 which featured Javier Peña talking to his DEA boss while looking at a picture of the real Kiki Camarena. Javier Peña mentions that his first assignment out of the academy was part of a task force looking for Kiki Camarena in Guadalajara.
Fans know by now that “Narcos” season 4 will be focusing on the rise and fall of the Mexican Guadalajara cartel and will feature Michael Peña as Kiki Camarena. There is now the possibility that the search for Camarena will feature a young Javier Peña, hopefully to still be played by Pedro Pascal. While Javier Peña will definitely no longer be at the center of “Narcos” season 4, the shout out to continuity of the series would be a nice fan service.
Fans looking forward to the next chapter of Netflix's crime-thriller can catch “Narcos” season 4 when it goes live on the streaming service on Nov. 16.
