NEAR Protocol (NEAR) has delivered an explosive rally over the past month, climbing more than 200% from around $1.70 in late August to approximately $5.20. The sharp advance has pushed NEAR into a near-vertical price trend, highlighting strong bullish momentum while also raising concerns that the cryptocurrency may be significantly overheated.
Since breaking out of its previous consolidation range, NEAR has posted an unusually consistent series of gains, with very few bearish sessions interrupting the rally. This momentum has created a substantial gap between the NEAR price and its major moving averages.
The 50-day moving average currently sits near $2.90, while the 100-day and 200-day averages are positioned around $2.40 and $2.10, respectively. With NEAR trading far above all three indicators, the token appears increasingly extended relative to its longer-term trend.
Technical momentum indicators are also flashing caution. NEAR's Relative Strength Index (RSI) has climbed into the high 70s, placing it deep within overbought territory. While an elevated RSI can persist during powerful cryptocurrency rallies, such readings often increase the possibility of a correction or extended consolidation as market conditions normalize.
NEAR has previously experienced similar episodes of rapid price appreciation followed by sharp mean reversion. In May, the cryptocurrency surged toward $2.90 before quickly surrendering much of the advance. The current rally has been substantially stronger, but the widening distance from key technical indicators could leave NEAR vulnerable to another aggressive pullback.
For traders, the $4.00-$4.20 region is emerging as an important support zone. Holding above this former breakout area could preserve NEAR's broader bullish structure even if prices cool from current levels. However, a sustained move below $4.00 could signal that the parabolic phase has ended and increase the risk of a deeper correction.
NEAR's momentum remains firmly bullish for now, but after a 200% monthly surge, volatility and profit-taking could become increasingly important factors for the next price move.
