Near Protocol (NEAR) has paused the powerful rally that dominated its price action during the second half of September, shifting from rapid gains toward a period of consolidation. While momentum has weakened, the broader NEAR price trend remains bullish as traders watch critical support levels.
NEAR is trading around $4.79 after briefly reaching the $5.40-$5.60 range. The cryptocurrency's recent performance has been significant, with NEAR climbing from roughly $1.80 at the beginning of September to above $5 at its local peak. That move represented an increase of nearly three times its early-September value.
However, resistance emerged around $5.40-$5.60. Multiple long candle wicks and sharp intraday reversals indicated increased selling pressure as traders took profits following the steep rally. Instead of maintaining a pattern of higher highs and higher lows, NEAR has since traded mainly between $4.60 and $5.00.
Technical indicators also suggest that momentum is cooling. NEAR's daily Relative Strength Index previously climbed above 70, traditionally considered overbought territory, before retreating toward the low-60 range. The RSI remains above 50, meaning bullish momentum has not disappeared, although the exceptionally strong acceleration seen during September has eased.
Trading volume provides another important signal. Activity surged as NEAR broke from approximately $2.50 through $4.50, but volume has declined during the latest consolidation. Buyers may need to return with stronger conviction before another major breakout can develop.
The $4.60-$4.70 area is now the key support zone. Holding this range could allow NEAR to establish a higher base before challenging $5 and eventually the $5.40-$5.60 resistance zone again. A decisive breakout above the recent peak could revive the token's strong bullish structure.
Conversely, a drop below $4.60 could increase the risk of a deeper NEAR price correction. The rising short-term moving average around $4.00-$4.10 could then become the next major support area.
For now, NEAR appears to have interrupted its near-vertical rally rather than ended its broader bullish trend. Whether buyers can defend $4.60 will likely determine the cryptocurrency's next significant move.
