Marquese Chriss, a free-agent forward, reportedly joined Stephen Curry’s team Golden State Warriors after signing a one-year contract deal. Last season, he left Houston Rockets and Cleveland Cavaliers and now he’s moved on to the Warriors.
This news info came from senior NBA insider for Yahoo Sports, Chris Haynes. On Sept. 24 via social media, he disclosed that sources relayed to them that Chriss agreed to a deal with the Golden State team. “Free agent forward Marquese Chriss - 8th pick in 2016 NBA Draft - has reached an agreement on a one-year deal with the Golden State Warriors,” he wrote on Twitter.
The alleged truth about the contract
However, Anthony Slater, who covers the Warriors for The Athletic responded that although Marquese Chriss signed a deal, there is no guarantee that he will stay with the said NBA team. He noted that Chriss really needs to do his best in a year so that he can make the cut and the team will keep him.
“I hear it's a non-guaranteed camp invite for Chriss,” Slater wrote. “Warriors don't really have room for 15th man (hard cap), but McKinnie (very likely to remain on the roster) has a non-guaranteed deal, and other pieces could be shed if Chriss impresses.”
Is Marquese deal with the Warriors good for him?
Jack Maloney of CBS Sports opined that Marquese Chriss has a long way to go to have a good place in the team. But his inclusion is something good for the Warriors because being with a group of really talented players could potentially help unlock his real prowess that made him a top 10 pick. When this happens, then the team will have another reliable player who can help bring the group to the finals.
Meanwhile, Marquese Chriss has fine records in the NBA with an average play of 7.6 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. In the 2016 NBA draft, he was the no. 8 pick and selected by Phoenix Suns.
Later, he was traded to Rockets then he finished last season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He will now be playing with the Warriors and be teammates with Willie Cauley-Stein and D’Angelo Russell for the offseason league.
