Miranda Lambert is considered one of the most talented country singer-songwriters to date as evidenced by how enduring her songs are. One of them, “Tin Man,” has captured the hearts of millions of people worldwide with other celebrities praising the emotional impact of its lyrics.
In an interview with ACM Tempo (via CMT), Miranda Lambert revealed that location played an integral role in creating the single. She cited Marfa, Texas as the place that inspired her to put her heartbreak on paper.
Along with Jack Ingram and Jon Randall, the three traveled 600 miles west of Miranda Lambert’s hometown and settled in a ranch at the foot of Davis Mountain. There, the three took in the vast quietness of the landscape and worked on several songs.
“We were just free. We didn’t have any goals or plans, we just wrote. I think being out in West Texas where it’s vast and beautiful and there’s nothing for miles just makes you listen to yourself and the thoughts. It really stirs up creativity,” Miranda Lambert recalled.
She added that the three of them instinctively knew that “Tin Man” was going to be big as soon as they wrote the first verse of the single. Indeed, the single won them the ACM Award back in April, and the song is continuously making headlines years after it was released. Kelly Clarkson, recently, covered it during her “Meaning of Life” tour last week and praised Miranda Lambert for being quite the composer.
“She is one hell of a writer. I hope I did it justice, Miranda. I love that song … I was cleaning out my closet and I had my phone on and that came on and I was like, ‘Whaaaat?’ I was bawling. I was a sobbing mess,” Kelly Clarkson admitted to the crowd. As for what’s next for Miranda Lambert, the country singer is slated to perform on April 1 in Nashville during an All-Star birthday concert.
