Minecraft Visual Upgrade Is 4K-Friendly, Switch And PC Players Can Destroy Each Other

Without a doubt, Minecraft is the biggest video game cash cow for Microsoft. As such, it only made sense that the company would reveal something about the sandbox building simulator during its E3 presentation. Two of these revelations stand out, which are the new visual upgrades and the plans to unify all versions of the game in various platforms.

No one can accuse Minecraft of having the best graphics in the business, which is what turns a lot of people off from playing it. Thanks to the "Super-Duper Graphics Pack" that Microsoft is releasing, however, this might just change. No, it won’t look like The Witcher 3, but it will at least have acceptable performance when played on 4K screens, Ars Technica reports.

Some of the changes include an overhaul of the rendering system, which makes the blocks appear smoother and less pixelated. There’s also a new lighting system, which offers some dynamic shadows and surface reflections.

Now, these changes are rather superficial when compared to the other updates that Microsoft is bringing to the game. There’s the "Better Together Update," which is basically putting all of the different versions of Minecraft on a C++ setup. This makes them easier to manage, but the connectivity is what really makes it stand out, Time reports.

The move basically brings all the different players on different platforms together, which means that a Nintendo Switch player can interact with someone on the PC version. The same goes for mobile users.

What’s more, console versions of the game will finally get unlimited worlds access. This means that those playing on the Xbox One and Switch will no longer be constrained to about 3 miles of space in every direction. Now, players can literally build and keep on building until they reach the ends of the virtual world and then keep on going.
