Migrant crisis – anti-immigration party gains prominence in Sweden, wake up call for Merkel?

Latest poll suggests, anti-immigration party, Swedish Democrats, who were nowhere near few years back has become a major challenger to government.

Anti-immigration party, Swedish Democrats has gained in support from just 5% in 2012 to 20% as of now.

Sweden has been top ally of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, in her open door policy. However Migrant crisis now threatening Europe's social and political landscape.

Despite being chosen as Person of the Year by Time Magazine, German Chancellor is under immense pressure in home ground. Particularly, incident in cologne, where hundreds of women were harassed on New Years' Eve now severely threatening her open door policy as migrants are thought to be responsible. Cologne crisis has led to serious religious clash in Cologne and now threatening stability of overall Germany.

Key question now facing Germany is "are we coming to the end of Merkel Era?"

Germany is scheduled for election in 2017.
