Microsoft unveiled its updated Bing search engine and Edge Web browser this week. The tech firm said it used artificial intelligence technology for the overhaul, so the operating system is now more powerful than ChatGPT.
Microsoft revamped its Edge browser and Bing search engine with the aim of taking over its rival, Google. It has cooperated with OpenAI for the upgrading that will make its browser and web search tools faster, more dynamic, and more efficient but easy to use and navigate.
The tech firm announced the rollout of the new Bing and Edge on Tuesday, Feb. 7. This move is said to be an indication that Microsoft is gearing towards its goal of reclaiming the lead in the consumer technology business where it has fallen behind.
According to NBC News, Microsoft is investing billions of dollars in improvements in its Windows operating system and web platforms to challenge Alphabet Inc’s Google which has surpassed it in search and browser advancements.
With the integration of the AI chatbot in its Bing search engine and using the technology to summarize web pages, Microsoft is hoping to attract more users. It is also expecting its search advertising revenues to increase and bring in billions to the company.
“Today, we are launching an all-new, AI-powered Bing search engine and Edge browser, available in preview now at Bing.com, to deliver better search, more complete answers, a new chat experience and the ability to generate content,” Microsoft’s corporate vice president and consumer chief marketing officer, Yusuf Mehdi, said in a blog post that was published on Tuesday on the company’s webpage. “We think of these tools as an AI copilot for the web.”
Microsoft’s chairman and chief executive officer, Satya Nadella, also said, “AI will fundamentally change every software category, starting with the largest category of all – search. We are launching Bing and Edge powered by AI copilot and chat, to help people get more from search and the web.”
