Microsoft has not yet officially announced that it’s working on the Surface Book 3. But with the various patent leaks and rumors floating around, tech watchers are convinced that the gadget will be arriving this year.
Surface Book 3 specs rumors
With the competition already upgrading their wares, Surface Book 2’s Nvidia GTX 1050 and 8th-gen Intel CPU just won’t cut it anymore. Thankfully, the upcoming Surface Book 3 will arrive with upgraded specs with the option to have them upgraded to Intel’s 10th-generation processors, Nvidia’s 16 Series GTX GPUs, and even Nvidia Quadro series, according to Digital Trends.
An upgrade to Intel’s 10th-generation is actually expected for the Surface Book 3 at this point. After all, both the Surface Pro 7 and the Surface Laptop 3 already sport Intel’s Ice Lake Processors so it would make sense for the upcoming gadget to feature it as well.
As a gaming device, the existing Surface Book 2 has been praised by Xbox players for its easy wireless controller support and Play Anywhere titles. The upcoming Surface Book 3 will even be a better gaming gadget with the upgrade to Nvidia 16-series GTX GPUs.
The Surface Book 2’s up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage option will be upgraded in the new hardware as well. Reports suggest that the Surface Book 3 could double the RAM of its predecessor as it will be offered with 32GB of RAM. Storage will likely remain the same at 1TB, according to Softpedia News.
Surface Book 3 design
The 2020 Surface Book model is not likely to differ much from the current Surface Book 2 save for some minor refinements. The hinge, which might not be everybody’s cup of tea, is still expected to be around in the new gadget.
According to Digital Trends, the slight exterior modifications of the Surface Book 3 could include a new charging port and a Surface Connect port on top of the two USB-A ports and a USB-C port already found in the current model. Based on patent filings, there might be a secondary that will be located on the detachable keyboard.
Surface Book 3 release date
There were talks that the Surface Book 3 and the Surface Go 2 might be launched on Spring 2020 with others speculating that the company might use the Microsoft Build 2020 to launch the devices, according to Tech Advisor. However, Microsoft announced the Build this year, which is scheduled on May 19-21 in Seattle, will be a virtual-only event due to the coronavirus.
Meanwhile, Digital Trends reported that the Surface Book 3 launching could happen in New York. Microsoft will reportedly be announcing new hardware, which includes the Surface Book 3 and Surface Go 2, at an event in the Big Apple this spring.
