The meme coin market is showing increasingly fragmented price action as traders rotate between individual narratives rather than fueling a broad sector rally. The category’s market capitalization stood near $35.2 billion in the latest September 28 snapshot, falling about 4.2% over 24 hours.
Some of the strongest gains have come from newly launched, low-liquidity tokens. Baby Cali on Solana surged roughly 11,400% to an $8.9 million market cap, while Robinhood Chain-based Shareholder Cat (SHCAT) jumped around 7,300% to $2.6 million. Pevlunora gained approximately 2,300%, reaching an $857,000 valuation.
However, these moves have proved highly volatile. Baby Cali and Shareholder Cat quickly dropped 17% and 37%, respectively, within an hour of reaching their highs. Liquidity ranging from roughly $289,000 to $576,000 also highlights the risks surrounding such rapid meme coin rallies.
Among larger tokens, PUMP emerged as a notable outperformer, gaining about 12% to $0.0053 and reaching a market capitalization of approximately $2.44 billion. Pump.fun generated $2.11 million in fees over 24 hours, with $1.24 million directed to holders through buybacks. MarsCoin and Cash Cat also posted gains.
Meanwhile, several established meme coins moved sharply lower. DOG•GO•TO•THE•MOON dropped 13.95%, SPX6900 declined 11.60%, and Non-Playable Coin fell 11.35%.
The broader picture suggests the meme coin market is experiencing rotation rather than a sustained “meme season.” Traders are concentrating on short-term catalysts involving Pump.fun, Solana tokens and new Robinhood Chain projects. With some low-liquidity tokens recording dramatic gains followed by equally rapid reversals, market conditions remain highly speculative.
Bitcoin’s ability to reclaim $85,000 could be an important indicator for broader risk appetite, while traders will also be watching whether current meme coin leaders can maintain liquidity after interest in newly launched tokens fades.
