Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have started their official schedules for their royal trip to South Africa. They headed to Cape Town on the first day, and they were greeted by the citizens and their fans.
Throughout the tour, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex appeared on the events wearing very simple ensembles. However, since the members of the royal family are expected to follow a strict dress code when attending to official engagements, her every outfit was scrutinized.
Meghan’s fashion choices
Although it is good that she chose simple outfits in South Africa, her fashion picks were closely inspected by royal observers since there’s a dressing protocol set for the royals. In fact, ladies are only allowed to wear nude stockings, and there are even shades of lipstick that are considered inappropriate.
In one of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s outings, the former wore a black printed wrap dress, but although the dress can pass the royal dress code, the Duchess wore an item that will surely offend and anger Queen Elizabeth. The dress will not displease Her Majesty, but it’s Meghan’s shoes which were the problem.
Breaking the Queen’s rules
As noted on the Express, the Queen is not a fan of wedges or platform heels. She is known to detest this shoe style, and the members of the royal family are well aware of her distaste for wedged-heels thus, the ladies do not wear them in her presence.
Now, since the royals knew about Her Majesty’s hate for wedges, it was assumed that the Duchess of Sussex also knows about this. This is why she broke a royal protocol when she appeared on an event wearing black Espadrille wedge shoes. They said that she may have done this since Queen Elizabeth is thousands of miles away.
In any case, Meghan Markle’s outfits at the South Africa royal trip were said to have sold out in stores. People looked them up online and purchased the same dresses, proving that she is another style icon like Kate Middleton, who also makes things she uses or wears to sell out.
