McDonald's opened its newest store on Jeju Island in South Korea. The establishment is the chain’s Jeju Oedo DT branch which has been built in a location with a panoramic view of the ocean.
The store is a drive-thru restaurant in the region and it also boasts of being a fully eco-friendly outlet. McDonald’s said the new Jeju branch is equipped with tools for energy efficiency and convenience of the customers.
Environmentally-Friendly Store Features
According to The Korea Times, McDonald’s Oedo DT branch is also a good place for owners of electric vehicles because it has a rapid charging station for electric vehicles. This store is the first in the country's franchise to have this facility for the convenience of EV drivers.
Moreover, the store uses solar energy from photovoltaic panels that were installed on the establishment’s third-floor rooftop. What’s more, in the surrounding vicinity of the McDonald’s store, the safety wooden fences are made from recycled ground coffee beans collected from the restaurant's own McCafe.
The wallpapers, paints, and other products and decorations in McDonald’s Oedo DT branch are all certified eco-friendly. The best feature is the ocean view that diners can enjoy at the restaurant. They can also stay on the deck to view the full moon at night.
Hankooki.com reported that the rooftop space and the exterior of the building were designed based on the view of the moon rising over the wavy sea. McDonald’s said the full moon's circular shape represents “inclusiveness” and “unity” which reflect the chain’s corporate philosophy.
Celebrating the Opening of McDonald’s Jeju Outlet
The store opened on Friday, Nov. 24, and to celebrate the inauguration, McDonald’s gave away 200 burgers and drinks to five orphanages in the area. The fast-food chain has been involved in social contribution activities since 2013 through its “Burger of Happiness” program.
“The Jeju Oedo DT branch with the new ‘Luna’ design is a store where you can enjoy the scenery of Jeju by combining various elements such as a panoramic ocean view and a rooftop,” Segye Ilbo News quoted an official of McDonald's Korea as saying in a statement. “It is close to the airport, so it is a great place to start your trip to Jeju and we hope that many people will show interest and visit this place where they can experience pleasant moments at the end.”
