Mass Effect Andromeda might not have been the game that fans were hoping for, but it can now claim at least one real-life effect that’s about as massive as currently possible. Players of BioWare’s offering will find one concept proposal for NASA’s future Mars Rover familiar since it’s similar to the game’s “Nomad” ground transport.
To be fair, the rover concept was in the works years before the “Nomad” was introduced. It’s the fruit of the collaboration between Parker Brothers Concepts and the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, which is a privately-run establishment with ties to NASA, Business Insider reports. In fact, its creators seem more interested in comparing the futuristic vehicle with the Batmobile from Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies.
In any case, the concept vehicle has been making the rounds on social media since last week, with images and videos of the yet-unnamed transport showing up on Instagram and Twitter. According to the machine’s designer, Marc Parker, the rover is a six-wheel model that runs completely on electricity. It’s also designed to overcome extremely rocky and hostile environments.
Sadly, it seems the vehicle is not going to be rolling along the sandy terrain of the Red Planet any time soon. Instead, the concept rover will be touring the US in an effort to energize the public and ignite their interest in the idea of interstellar travel, once again.
It’s now been a few days since its big reveal and the rover concept already has people talking and feeling excited about the prospect of a manned exploration of Mars, Futurism reports. Actually getting to the planet and driving on it, let alone living there indefinitely, is still a long way off. However, with the recent enthusiasm in space travel thanks to companies like SpaceX and the recently-announced NASA Mars initiative, it might actually be possible in decades rather than centuries.
