Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg has been working on an artificial intelligence home unit that functions much like the Jarvis home butler that Tony Stark had in the Iron Man movies. Although there is still a long way to go before the machine can actually interact with the user to the point that it can replace its human counterpart, it can at least recognize certain musical preferences.
The home machine partner that Zuckerberg has been working on is actually just a side project for the founder of the biggest social media site in the world, TechCrunch reports. Although there are many other AI products in the market that can do roughly the same things as what Zuckerberg is trying to accomplish, such as Amazon’s Alexa or Google Home, he wanted something more responsive on a personal level.
As it turns out, the task was actually easier than Zuckerberg thought it would be. At least, this is what he implied in a Facebook post that he made about the project.
“In some ways, this challenge was easier than I expected. In fact, my running challenge (I also set out to run 365 miles in 2016) took more total time,” the post reads. “But one aspect that was much more complicated than I expected was simply connecting and communicating with all of the different systems in my home.”
Zuckerberg first announced the existence of the project back in January of this year, and 11 months later, it would seem that the AI can choose appropriate tracks based on vague commands. For example, if Zuckerberg or his wife were to ask Jarvis to play tunes that were light, heavy, dark, or energetic, the AI would respond appropriately.
According to Fast Company, Zuckerberg has only spent around 100 to 150 hours on his side-project since the beginning of the year. This is expected since he is a busy CEO and the progress that he made thus far is impressive, considering that he didn’t go through the Facebook bootcamp.
