NESS ZIONA, Israel, Feb. 06, 2018 -- Mapi Pharma Ltd., a fully integrated, clinical late stage biopharmaceutical company, announced today that it will host a Key Opinion Leader (KOL) luncheon on its GA Depot, a novel long-acting depot formulation of glatiramer acetate for multiple sclerosis (MS) on Tuesday, February 13th in New York City.
The meeting will feature a presentation by Dr. Carlo Tornatore, MD, Georgetown University Medical Center, who will discuss the current treatment landscape, as well as the unmet medical need for treating patients with MS. Dr. Tornatore will be available to answer questions at the conclusion of the event.
Mapi Pharma's CEO and Chairman Ehud Marom, together with top management, will provide an overview of the company's positioning in the MS market, including a presentation on their lead product candidate, GA Depot, a glatiramer acetate treatment administered once every four weeks for relapsing MS patients. Glatiramer acetate, marketed as Copaxone®, is currently the leading drug for patients with MS in the US. Mapi Pharma has completed an open-label Phase II clinical trial and is preparing to submit an IND application to the FDA, for a pivotal Phase III clinical trial to support a marketing application under the 505(b)(2) regulatory pathway.
Carlo Tornatore, MD, is Professor and Chairman of Neurology at Georgetown University Medical Center as well as Director of the Multiple Sclerosis Patient Centered Specialty Practice at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. He earned his master's degree in physiology at Georgetown University and his medical degree at Georgetown University Medical School. He completed his internship at Providence Hospital and his residency in neurology at Georgetown University Hospital. His fellowship was completed at the National Institute for Neurologic Disorders and Stroke at the National Institutes of Health in the Laboratory of Molecular Medicine and Neuroscience in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Tornatore is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and American Society for Neural Transplantation. His research interests include multiple sclerosis treatment, neuroimmunology, neuro-AIDS, and infectious diseases of the central nervous system, for which he has published a wide variety of articles and book chapters. In addition, he is a reviewer for several journals including Annals of Neurology, Neurology, and Medical Virology.
