Manny Pacquiao is still fresh from his win against Keith Thurman. He soiled the latter’s boxing career record when he gave him his very first defeat, and now it was said that the Filipino boxer wants to have a rematch with Floyd Mayweather who is also undefeated until now.
Mayweather has a 50-50 record, and it remained untarnished even as Pacquiao once tried to beat him in 2015. His win against Manny was uneventful though as it lacked action and he was heavily criticized after the match although he was celebrating his win.
Will the Pacquiao - Mayweather fight happen again?
After Manny Pacquiao and Keith Thurman’s bout that took place in Las Vegas last July 20 and ended in a split decision favoring the former, the call for a rematch between Pacquiao and Mayweather is back. However, they said that there’s a very slim chance that this will happen because the American boxer has always tried to duck this fight.
“I don’t think Floyd Mayweather Jr. will fight Manny after the Keith Thurman fight," Justin Fortune, Pacman’s strength and conditioning trainer told The Manila Times last week. "But ultimately that’s Floyd’s decision and this is just my opinion.”
He added that in case Mayweather Jr. would accept, the fight will be very different this time and suggested that Pacman will win. “Manny is an active fighter, fighting top-level guys, while Floyd is not,” he explained. “Floyd knows that, Manny knows that, I know that and you know that.”
Advised to retire
There are calls for Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather fight but Bob Arum, the Manny’s former promoter, said that he should just retire, as per UK’s Mirror. Arum of Top Rank guided Pacman in the early days of his boxing career, and he thinks that it is time for him to hang up his gloves. He has already proven that he is one of the best boxers in this generation, so the Top Rank boss wants him to walk away from the ring now.
Meanwhile, Eddie Alvarez, a former UFC champion, believed that when Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather face each other again for the second time, the result will still be the same as their first fight. This means that Alvarez picked the American boxer as the winner for the rematch if it will take place.
