Dayton, Ohio, Aug. 10, 2017 -- MacAulay-Brown, Inc. (MacB), a leading National Security company delivering advanced engineering services, cybersecurity and product solutions, today announced that Duane Shugars, Vice President of MacB’s Enlighten IT Group (EITG), was the keynote speaker at a TechTalk Session on Tuesday, August 8 during TechNet Augusta 2017. He presented “Transforming Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO) Infrastructure for the U.S Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC)”, which highlighted the challenges facing both as they continue to encounter cyber threats across all tiers of existing infrastructure. The event was well-received with more than 100 people in attendance among a standing-room only crowd.
Mr. Shugars is a technology expert known for his work on distributed cloud and data fusion projects for the DoD and IC over the last 10 years. Also participating during the session were panelists and coworkers Shawn Justice, MacB’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of EITG, and Tim Israel, Director of Cloud Engineering. Rounding out the panel was Jim Caggy, Manager of DoD Solutions for Amazon Web Services (AWS).
The panel discussed using the rapid deployment and sustainment of Big Data Platform (BDP) analytical environments to help the DoD and IC find better ways to shore up segmented and complex network infrastructures and cyber grids. EITG recently partnered with AWS to design a complex and multi-tiered cloud solution for improved defense of the infrastructure, with a compute, network, and storage environment that is high-performing, scalable and secure.
BDP is a cloud-based solution that was first developed by EITG for the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). EITG’s proprietary Rapid Deployment and Management Framework (RADMF) enables rapid deployment on hardware, commercial cloud and virtual echo systems like OpenStack, and also supports deployment on a laptop.
“It was an honor to present our multi-tiered and scalable technology solution for the DoD and IC during this important TechTalk event,” said Mr. Justice. “We believe our rapid deployment framework addresses current data acquisition and cross domain hurdles, encourages cross-community collaboration, and offers real-time data aggregation as policies and procedures within the DoD and IC struggle to catch up with technology.”
