Strategy (MSTR) stock climbed more than 3% on Friday after Barclays raised its price target, reinforcing investor optimism about the Bitcoin-focused company. The rally also coincided with a recovery in Bitcoin price, which rebounded toward $82,700 after falling to approximately $80,300 over the previous 24 hours.
MSTR stock gained 3.6% to trade at $157.02, extending its monthly increase to more than 18%. The shares have also advanced approximately 22% over the past six months, reflecting renewed investor interest in Strategy and its substantial Bitcoin holdings.
On October 9, Barclays analyst Nik Cremo increased the firm's 12-month MSTR stock price target from $160 to $175 while maintaining an Overweight rating. The revised forecast represents a 9.4% increase from the previous target and suggests potential upside exceeding 11% from recent trading levels.
Notably, Barclays categorized Strategy within the US payments and financial technology sector rather than treating it solely as a Bitcoin investment company. This approach places Strategy alongside established financial services companies such as Visa and Mastercard, potentially broadening how investors evaluate its business and valuation.
Additional market attention followed reports that US President Donald Trump disclosed new investments in Strategy shares through a recent ethics filing. The development may have contributed to positive sentiment surrounding MSTR stock.
Meanwhile, Bitcoin's recovery provided further support for Strategy shares. BTC rebounded toward $83,000 after briefly approaching $80,000, easing concerns following the cryptocurrency market's recent decline.
Strategy's stock performance remains closely connected to Bitcoin price movements because the company maintains one of the world's largest corporate Bitcoin treasuries. Consequently, fluctuations in BTC prices can significantly influence investor expectations for MSTR.
The company also continues expanding its cryptocurrency reserves. Strategy reportedly acquired another 334 BTC last week for approximately $28.7 million, bringing its total holdings to around 848,000 Bitcoin.
With Bitcoin showing signs of recovery, investors are monitoring whether sustained upward momentum could push MSTR stock toward Barclays' $175 target.
However, Strategy shares remain exposed to cryptocurrency volatility, and further Bitcoin price declines could pressure the stock despite the investment bank's optimistic outlook.
