“Lucifer” season 4 was canceled by Fox and fans find it unfair. In fact, when the cancellation was announced, a massive protest erupted as fans demanded the network to bring back the supernatural drama.
Fans could not comprehend why Fox decided not to push through with “Lucifer” season 4 anymore. After they finally got answers through the season 3 finale and after learning the truth about Lucifer, the network suddenly decided to withdraw the show from its TV lineup.
Avid viewers of “Lucifer” did not get any answers as to why Fox had to cancel it. But three months since the outcry, Fox finally revealed the reason. On Thursday, Fox TV CEO Dana Walden attended the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour and it was there that she finally opened up about the fate of “Lucifer” season 4 on Fox.
“We had a great time working with that cast and the executive producers of the show,” TV Guide quoted Walden as saying. “It worked well for us but as we were going into this season, we looked at the size of the audience, which was starting to get pretty narrow.”
She added, “It was not an inexpensive show, and we just made a decision that ultimately it wasn’t performing to a broad enough audience in a way that worked for us.”
In any case, Netflix acted as the hero when it rescued the show. The streaming network saved “Lucifer” season 4, which means that despite the cancellation, fans can continue watching it but not on Fox anymore.
Explaining why they saved the series, Netflix VP Cindy Holland said it was because it “has really resonated with audiences in parts of the world where we licensed it so we felt it was important to help that show continue for those fans.”
Now, since it was confirmed that there will still be “Lucifer” season 4, here are details that we know so far:
Cast
For sure, Tom Ellis (Lucifer Morningstar) and Lauren German (Detective Chloe Decker) are coming back for the new season. Other characters who are likely to be in “Lucifer” season 4 include Kevin Alejandro (Detective Dan Espinoza), DB Woodside (Amenadiel), Rachael Harris (Dr. Linda Martin), Lesley-Ann Brandt (Mazikeen) and Aimee Garcia (Ella Lopez)
Episodes
As per TV Line, there will only be 10 episodes and each one will run for just 43 minutes. "We'll probably stick roughly to our 43 minutes," season 4 showrunner Ildy Modrovich told the publication.
Air Date
There is still no word from Netflix but “Lucifer” season 4 showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson revealed that production will begin this month and is expected to wrap up in December. With that timeframe, it is likely to arrive in the first quarter of 2019.
