CFTC commitment of traders report was released on Friday (17th August) and cover positions up to Tuesday (14th August). COT report is not a complete presenter of entire market positions; however, it represents a good chunk of institutional traders, to have a feel of what expected by the big players.

- Gold – Position shifted from long to short
Long positions declined for the fifth consecutive week and the net position shifted from long to short. The net long positions got decreased by 16,376 contracts to -3.7K contracts.
- Copper – Net position long and increasing
Long positions rose last week. The net longs rose by 898 contracts to +3.1K contracts.
- Silver – Position shifted from long to short
The long positions declined for the sixth time in seven weeks and by 7,177 contracts to -2.84K contracts.
- WTI Crude – Net position long and decreasing
Speculators reduced long positions for the seventh time in eight weeks, and by 35,499 contracts, which brought the net positions to +573.4K contracts.
- Natural gas – Net position short and decreasing
Short positions declined for the third consecutive week and by 30,941 contracts last week to -76.2K contracts.
