LG Electronics Co. announced it will be working with universities in Alaska to develop high-performance heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) products that can function well even in extreme cold conditions.
As LG Electronics teamed up with Alaskan universities, it established a new heat pump research hub in the country. The South Korean electronics giant said that with this joint research and development, it expects rapid growth of the air conditioning tech in cold countries.
The HVAC Development in Alaska
LG Electronics unveiled its latest collaboration with universities in the U.S. state of Alaska on Monday, Nov. 6. They will develop HVAC products and for this joint project, LG Electronics formed a consortium with the University of Alaska Anchorage and the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The three parties will set up a joint R&D center to carry out their collaborative work.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the facilities for the hub will be inaugurated on the respective campuses of the universities. The initial plan of LG Electronics is to conduct different trials by installing heat pump heating and cooling systems in specific spaces. The main aim of the research is to improve the overall performance and reliability of HVAC products in very cold weather. The R&D has been named the “LG Alaska Heat Pump Research Institute.”
LG’s R&D Expansion Plans
Seoul Finance News reported LG Electronics further revealed it will expand its R&D organization for the HVAC industry and aim for global business development for heating and cooling solutions.
“Collaboration with LG Electronics will be the foundation for developing innovative solutions to respond to climate change and an opportunity to drive change in the overall HVAC industry,” University of Alaska Anchorage president, Sean Parnell, said in a press release,
LG Electronics’ H&A business unit’s president, Lee Jae Seong, also commented, “Our ultimate goal is to lead the future of the global heat pump industry and provide differentiated customer experiences. Through this consortium, we expect rapid growth in air conditioning technology and overcome existing limitations.”
Lee added, “We will become a leading company in the heating, cooling and air conditioning market by introducing innovative products with superior performance and environmental consideration.”
