"Kingdom Hearts 3" is going to have an FPS minigame. This is slightly worrying since Square Enix’s developers are apparently not well-versed at making shooters, Bleeding Cool reported.
Basically, the minigame will have Sora settle inside a cockpit of a mech-style toy and bumping heads with other mechs inside an arena. Bleeding Cool reported that the heads-up display (HUD) wasn’t designed to be ideal and felt “arcadey” for a modern shooter.
However, the developers managed to make the minigame fun by applying a retro atmosphere, and the controls for firing the mech’s weapons work pretty well despite a somewhat disconnected feel to them. So in conclusion, even though the "KH3" developers are considered not very proficient in making an FPS game, they apparently did a good job on this one.
And judging by the previous installments, this mecha-shooter will not be the only minigame in "Kingdom Hearts 3." Perhaps the most memorable minigame that this title managed to incorporate is "Olympus Coliseum," but hardcore fans will argue that "Mirage Arena" still reigns supreme.
Of course, this is but a minigame of "Kingdom Hearts 3," and the real fun begins when you start having Sora journey around the world. Iconic Disney properties like "Hercules," "Frozen," "Wreck-It Ralph," and "Monsters Inc." are just some of the movies that players can explore and complete quests and interact with beloved characters in. There will also be new abilities for Sora’s key blade, adding new ways of completing missions as well as providing a unique gameplay dimension.
Whatever the case, fans of the franchise are simply over the moon because the game will come out soon, almost six years after its E3 announcement. "Kingdom Hearts 3" is slated for release on Jan. 29, 2019, on the Xbox One and PS4.
Also, fans who are dead set on acquiring the game are now free to preorder it. The physical Deluxe Edition of the title, also for pre-order, will include an art book, a steel bookcase, and a collectible pin featuring Sora.
