Kia’s all-electric EV9 SUV surged in popularity last month, boasting a 43% year-over-year sales increase, positioning the brand as a leader in the EV sector despite overall market challenges.
Kia’s EV9 Dominates September Sales as EV Market Stumbles, Breaking New Records for 2024
Executive Vice President of Sales Operations at Kia America, Eric Watson, said sales of Kia’s electrified offerings continued to grow despite the industry-wide softening in growth for all-electric models.
Kia’s EV9 Breaks Records in September
In spite of predictions of a US electric vehicle market slump, Electrek reports that Kia maintained its strong performance last month.
With a 43% year-over-year increase, sales of Kia's all-electric cars broke records in September. The EV9, a new three-row electric SUV, was a major factor in the expansion.
EV9 Sales Surpass EV6
In September, Kia sold 2,096 EV9 cars, which was more than the 1,612 EV6 units sold. Sales of the Kia EV9 hit 15,970 units in the first nine months of 2024. With 15,985 units sold through September, an increase of 8% from last year's total of 14,798, the EV9 is almost surpassing Kia's first dedicated EV, the EV6.
Watson bragged, double-digit sales gains for Kia’s EV and PHEV models prove Kia’s leadership position as the industry transitions to electrification.
Kia’s Plug-in Hybrids Set New Sales Record
Also breaking records, with an 11% year-over-year increase, were sales of plug-in hybrids by Kia in September. Last month, 58,913 vehicles were sold in the US by Kia.
Kia EV9 to Access Tesla Supercharger Network by 2025
The availability of NACS adapters for the EV6 and EV9 was confirmed by Kia last week. More than 16,500 DC fast chargers in Tesla's Supercharger network can be accessed with these adapters.
If you bought a new EV9 in 2024 or 2025 or an EV6 in 2024 after September 4, 2024, Kia will give you a complimentary adaptor. Early 2025 is when they are anticipated to launch. The anticipated launch date for Tesla's Supercharger network is January 15, 2025.
EV9’s Competitive Features Drive Sales
Touted as a wake-up call for the industry, the EV9 starts at $56,395, according to Kia. It is not surprising that Kia is gaining popularity, as it offers greater legroom in the back than both the Range Rover P400 and the Cadillac Escalade.
With the newest software and technology from Kia, the EV9 can go up to 304 miles (in the Light Long Range RWD model) on a single charge.
