The Keanu Reeves- and Halle Berry-led film “John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum” will open in theaters worldwide this week. And film industry analysts are already eyeing to be the one to end the box office reign in North America of Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame.”
“Avengers: Endgame” has dominated the worldwide movie box office since it premiered in late April but that was not a shocker. Since the movie is now on its third week, ticket sales will naturally decrease giving other upcoming films to take its no. 1 spot in the box office and “John Wick 3” is expected to have what it takes to do so.
“John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum” continues the action-packed adventure of Reeves’ titular role. But now, he is the one being hunted after an international assassin organization, called the High Table, put out a hit on him for $14 million. Berry joins the film series as Sofia, a close friend and fellow assassin of the main protagonist.
As with all the movie release trends, the first week of screening is typically the strongest. For “Avengers: Endgame,” its domestic box office raked in more than $357 million, per Box Office Mojo’s reports. The second week already saw a 58.7 percent decline in gross sales as it numbers went down to over $147 million. The same source shows it already sees a 57.1 percent fall between the second and third-week sales that could be an opening for “John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum.”
Variety recently reported that “John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum” is eyed to gain $30 million to $35 million in North America box office in its opening weekend alone. If that tallies with the actual gross sales once the third movie installment premieres on Friday, May 17, it could have a grand first-week claiming “Avengers: Endgame’s” seat. If the movie meets the best of the above-mentioned expectations, it is also set to become the series installment with the strongest opening weekend.
