Jennifer Garner's superhero status isn't confined to her role as Marvel's scarlet ninja anymore after the 46-year-old actress came to her ex-husband's rescue earlier this August. Ben Affleck had reportedly relapsed into alcohol addiction and it was Jennifer Garner who took her ex-husband from his Brentwood, California home to a rehabilitation center in Malibu.
Ben Affleck's breakdown could be attributed to his recent breakup with "Saturday Night Live" producer Lindsay Shookus. Shookus and Affleck reportedly broke up due to the “Batman” actor's recent increase in drinking.
Affleck was later spotted with 22-year old Playboy model Shauna Sexton after his breakup with Shookus. Affleck's encounter with Sexton could have started the actor's snowball into the emotional mess that Jennifer Garner would encounter at his home.
People recently reported that an anonymous source close to Jennifer Garner stated that the former “Alias” star is starting to feel the stress of having to deal with Ben Affleck's relapse. Still, the source mentioned that Garner is focusing on explaining to her children what has happened to their father and is focusing the conversation on trying to get Ben Affleck to sober up so that he can effectively co-parent their children with her.
This is not the first time that Ben Affleck has had to be taken to a rehabilitation center in Malibu. Affleck had been taken by Charlie Sheen for alcohol addiction treatment back in 2001 and the actor also had a recent breakthrough against the illness back in 2017. Affleck's recent breakup with Shookus may have exacerbated his already fragile state considering that he was potentially on his way to a relapse prior to his breakup with Shookus.
Jennifer Garner's strong front in the face of Affleck's relapse can be traced back to the couple's original promise to be the best co-parents to their children despite their divorce.
