South Korean businesses would unlikely be affected by Japan's export restrictions of 23 major semiconductor manufacturing equipment, according to South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy.
The ministry is seeking to consult Japan on the matter.
The chip manufacturing equipment that could be restricted includes those for cleaning, deposition, and etching.
Japan is aligning with the United States on curbing China's access to advanced chipmaking technologies.
The ministry emphasized that Korean companies are not having difficulties in introducing related equipment as Japan’s export curbs are meant to prevent those items from being used for military purposes.
The ministry noted that the restrictions do not target specific nations, as it calls on equipment makers to seek permission for exporting their items to all regions.
South Korea will consult with Japan regarding the issue and will closely analyze the policy’s details.
