Japanese used car company Idom to support bitcoin payments

Idom Inc., an operator of a network of stores that buy and sell used cars throughout Japan, has announced its plans to add bitcoin as a payment method.

The company has partnered with leading cryptocurrency exchange bitFlyer to enable bitcoin payments. According to Bitcoin.com, the new option will be rolled out at 24 dealerships and the company intends to offer this payment method at 550 additional locations.

Starting December 20, 2017, Idom’s specialty imported used car chain ‘Liberala’, specializing in Bentleys, BMWs, and Audis, will start accepting the digital currency. The 24 Liberala stores located in Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto, Chubu, Kansai, Chugoku / Shikoku, and Kyushu will accept bitcoin payments in amounts up to 100 million yen per purchase.

In addition, Idom’s Gulliver brand, which has around 550 stores across Japan, could also see this payment option in the future.

“Experimentally, we started to operate with Liberala, and then we are considering introducing it to Gulliver stores, which expands approximately 550 stores nationwide,” Idom said (loosely translated).
